What do the users want? Seriously.
I wrote the list below as part of a consultation exercise that produced
the official NHS document 'Technical Requirements for GP Connectivity
to NHSnet'. The e-mail was added to the document as an appendix:
Begin the 'other' GP requirements:
I may be naive and not terribly good at writing long documents.
So, here is the 'other' GP requirements in a single e-mail :-) ;-)
1. Must Have:
- e-mail facility from within and with out clinical system
- GP-Provider communications
- Cheap and easy access to WWW
- A basic set of useful and relevant bookmarks
- Central funding of hardware and connection
- Appropriate security and confidentiality
- Farm out all those services that are best managed by 3rd party
- Appropriate and meaningful training for *all* staff and clinician
2. Really Useful Things:
- Local customisation, starting with region down to individuals
- Serious program of GP motivation
- Clear and simple structure for the introduction of change
- Clear lines of communication during development and implementation
stages
- Central commitment to listen to users
- Central funding for expert and user advice (like this list!)
3. Really Nice Things:
- Work to begin on collaborative and group work
- Commissioned content
- Incentivised content
- Package that works straight out of the box
- Cooperation of clinical system developers
- Education and training of hospital colleagues
- Continuous feedback that leads to change when change is needed!
I am sure others have their own lists, you are invited to add or
subtract from the above at will.
Let's just focus on one list at a time, starting with the 'Must Have'.
