>The NHSE hasn't written any guidance? Fine, we'll do
our own, because if someone is going to hand me a blank slate like this, I
will do what I normally do in such situations, and write my own script on
it.<
If only......
Do you honestly think that a NHS which has been up to its hair roots in
bureacracy for umpteen years will manage to let you or me or anyone else
write our own scripts? Fundholding promised us stuff like that and we
ended up with a room full of paper and God knows how many new regulations
and procedures to master. And it didn't matter a damn in the end because it
made no lasting and substantial change to the local services, power
structures or funding---it was literally a waste of money, talent and time
while diverting those with lots of energy away from involvement in areas
where they might have been able to make a difference.
We have had so much crap laden on to us in the name of "accountability"---I
won't rabbit on about the truly awesome failures of accountability in
recent years in areas of the NHS where accountability procedures are
supposedly top notch. I shall only say that the finely-tuned professional
conscience in a caring doctor dealing with real live people day in and day
out is so far ahead of any "accountability" system devised by the mind of
man or woman that I wonder why anyone would ever bother to try any other
system in GP.
Here endeth the lesson
