We have an EMIS system which has an automatic repeat option. This is set for
a 28 day repeat cycle only. If we want to give longer we do this on a
requested repeat system. The automatic option was a hangover from our
previous in-house system that we had to upgrade to EMIS several years ago.
With collection systems from local Chemists patients find this useful but
you have to be careful to review the expiry dates regularly. The 28 day
cycle was set because its always amazing how people run out of tablets at
weekends because they haven't collected their scripts if it is set to
monthly automatic.
