According to BBC 1 News this morning 'most doctors are pro PCGs'. Has their
been a ballot then? Did I miss seeing something about this?
As a lay person and potential patient I know too little, as yet, to
formulate a view on PCGs but as a Year 2000 consultant I have expressed
publicly the view that PCGs (and NHSNet) are things we cannot, from the
point of view of money and resources, afford at this time.
To me, restructuring on a large scale (without downsizing) equals short term
increases in cost even if restructuring brings long term cost savings or
benefit. I know cost is not the most important element in our NHS but it has
to be accepted that competing elements have to fight over a finite pot. It
seems crazy to me to burden the service with additional costs when finding
the money and resources to tackle Year 2000 problems is not only difficult
but of paramount importance. One thing at a time, please.
Please excuse the vested interest, I declare that most strongly. <g>
