There I was, just quietly minding my own business, getting Outlook 98 to
work alternatively with the internet and the Meditel intranet, and handling
GP-UK messages in a simple way, when I get summoned for something I didn't
do (honest your honour!)
What John C is referring to is the NHS Net dial up access purchased by the
North West Bristol Locality for our information manager, Chris Mackintosh,
to get access to electronic PACT.
We shall draw a veil over time taken to get the access, but it is true we
have on-line access to all the PACT data for the 20 participating practices.
Some of the data was presented at the locality evening and caused much
lively debate on the pros and cons of Amoxycillin and Co-Amoxiclav in
General Practice.
It is likely to be a vital tool for Practices and Primary Care Groups to
help develop and monitor prescribing policies. Of course, since most
scripts are issued on computer these days, it is daft that the PACT data is
built up from those laboriously entered paper forms arriving in Newcastle...
one of my enduring memories of 1997 was the Panorama programme on
prescription fraud and the apparently "historic" black and white footage of
women counting prescriptions, which changed into modern colour pictures!
