Yeah that is the one I meant---Idoru--likewise saw good reviews and was
tempted to buy hardback last time I was in Forbidden Planet in Dublin but
against my principles to pay double for thicker covers!
I thought Virtual Light was good, certainly different from tne Neuromancer
trilogy which I go back and re-read now and then. VL was I thought a bit
softer, more character, less hard-edged.
I heard him interviewed on radio October 96 when he was in Dublin on promo
tour and he spoke of the new underclass which he saw emerging--the
"info-poor." I was chairing part of a maternity conference in Dublin that
weekend and mentioned this phrase with good response from the audience.
Possibly more relevant to them because most of them were outside the main
power structures in maternity services (not an obstetrician to be seen!)
yet had a lot of useful info between them on maternity care.
And I think of GPs who glance at the comics as they throw them at the
dustbin and wonder how on earth people can live with so little
information??
