Sad git that I am, I've followed the HTML vs no-HTML in email debate
in various newsgroups for some time. As with almost every dispute (in
my humble experience) the truth lies somewhere between the extreme
participant's posiiton.
I was initially very anti HTML in email. I still don't like it but I
fear it is the way the world is going. My email client and newsreader
of choice (the unsurpassed Forte Agent) cannot and will never handle
HTML, which means I may have to look again at Outlook Express. Trouble
is OE has a much inferior interface and it's filtering facilities are
crap.
It is said that some ISPs are automatically filtering out HTML posts
from the newsgroups they carry, worrying about the bandwidth overhead,
which is interesting when they still carry terabytes of porn!
I think there is a movement towards maling lists and away from
newsgroups (due to choking spam) and this is fine by me. BTW, If you
want to get an email every day telling you about a new maling list you
might beinterested in, go to www.tipworld.com and follow the
instructions.
