At the risk of being controversial, I think it is an abuse of patients'
time and intelligence to put "health promotion" as the government see it
-that is, smoking, alcohol, exercise, weight etc into the standard
consultation. Surely on the whole they have come with a specific
problem, and in only 8(5,6,7,10)minutes we expect them to spit it all
out so we can get on with data collection to prove we asked them and
collect our money. I am pretty cheesed off when the dentist tells me
it's bad to eat sweets when I go for a filling etc.
Yes, I agree with promoting health, but not as part of treating ill
health automatically, and not with so much money attached to doing it or
not!
