<<Generally of course I am fascinated, but specific interest in NI
extends only as far as those NI GPs in a multifund using Icon
fundholder, who were sold copies of Surgery Manager by Reuters, >>
and more
Funny you should say that! As part of Darien Systems (best FH software in
the UK until we closed down!) I was on the presentation party to the
Eastern Health Board multifund IT committee. I won't go into details
(unless you ask me to) but the finance officer and chief exec gave each
other looks when we started. Our presentation was prob the best one they
got but it was obvious that the two chief honchos had already decided what
they would buy. Icon actually seemed to appear later (via Micro-Solutions)
and God knows how they got in to persuade the committee---they were not at
the formal presentation show. A while before that Micro-Solutions
suggested a joint approach with Darien Systems but we declined because we
felt we would end up as little more than a VAR for them. Anyway there were
lots of things about the multi-fund we were unhappy about---leaving aside
being pissed off at their treatment of us.
It shortly transpired that Micro-S would be selling (and allegedly
supporting) at least two if not three clinical systems. Kate Johnson, who
says she wrote the original spec for SM, was actually our consultant on our
approach to the multifund and she contributed a hell of a lot.
It seemed to us from other things we had heard---but damned if I can
remember exactly what---that there could well be major problems with
clinical systems in the multifund but I had not expected that they would
arise so late in the day--you say last year?
<<Your Health Board seems to have been persuaded to invest some of its
money in directions which other advice might not have supported.>>
Do you refer to the Western HB and is it GP IT? Tell me more and I'll
tell you more!
