Sorry if this is the wrong place, but Bradford HA cascade system closed at
4:30 on Friday, and this news officially broke at 5.pm. The message is
therefore by word of mouth and a garbled telephone message.
A doctor in the maternity unit at the Bradford Royal Infirmary has been
found to have TB. The risk to babies is believed too be small, but those
born within the last few (I think 6) weeks are being visited by a team of
nurses and being advised to attend special clinics at the BRI where
isoniazid at a dose of 50mg/kg is being prescribed. Community pharmacists
(and GP's?) in and around Bradford can therefore except to have queries
regarding the proper use of the oral syringe and enquiries about the
possible side effects/interactions of isoniazid.
Side effects (I am told) are less likely in the very young, but because of
isoniazids metabolism in the liver, concurrent use of other medicines might
present a problem.
There's a help line number at St Lukes Tel 365901
Glad I'm off for the weekend, good luck to the rest of you.
Jeff
