Joe, this is a public list and you have given enough info to make the
parties involved identifiable (especially for any insurance lurkers)
Options
1 If notes clearly indicate that the ex smoking is recent then I wouldn't
sign a letter to the contrary
2.If the notes don't specify at all BUT you know they are recent ex smokers
I would wrie to the insurers and state that the info they require is not
recorded in the notes and I woulfd tell the couple to see a commissioner of
oaths to take a sworn statement and pass the matter over to their own
conscience.
They should have read the small print before taking out the policy ... It
really isn't your problem and I can see nothing but potential problems for
you if you get embroiled in it.
A patient develops Hodgkins. Put through mill but comes out at the other
end with reasonable chance of ong remission/ cure.
Husband rings me saying that they are hoping to cash wife's Critical illness
insurance for £30,000 **but** my partner who is on holidays wrote on
insurance form that patient was ex smoker without specifying how long an ex
smoker .
Insurance company won't pay out if ex-smoker for less that 1 year prior to
onset of ilness. They want letter to state patient is ex smoker for longer
than required period *but* this is an untruth.
One letter is the difference between getting £30,000 or not.
Illness has caused considerable financial outlay on family.
