This w/e Pharmaceutical Journal reports that amoung the Governments's tough
choices in welfare review will be a review of prescription charges
what are your views?
- about time?
-The Pharmaceutical Society has long held the policy of oposition to charges
in principle -I believe based on the immediate potentially deleterious effect
on the pharmacist patient relationship - when the first question always is '
do you pay the prescription charge'
-should there be a charge for ' the oral contracceptive' - I think perhaps
not
- should the well off elderly pay - I think perhaps yes
should the well off with diabetes or epilepsy or thyroid disease pay - well
thats difficult - thus review is needed
- should the charge be reduced and mare people pay - yes
- should the charge be related to the cost of the drug? definately NOT, this
could discriminate against those need high cost drugs through no fault of
their own
