Jel,
Are you setting me up for a long long reply on how to review a repeat
prescribing system?
If you want me to I'll do it, but give me some time.
A good starting point is "Keep on taking the Tablets .. How to organise
repeat prescribing" by Arnold Zermansky. It was published by Leeds FHSA a
few years ago, but it's humerous, relevant and copyright. If your local
medical/pharmaceutical advisor can't get a copy for you, I'll e-mail you
most of it in either WordPerfect of HTML format.
There's the Audit Commission report, A couple of articles in the Journal of
General Practice (one by Zermansky) I'll sort out the references if you
want.
Could you not set a compromise solution in which staff can authorise 1
additional repeat only. That should give your patients at least a month to
make an appointment and be seen for a review (and you a month to reconsider
your prescribing <GDRVVF>)
I have a couple of repeat prescribing protocols, which given the relevant
surgeries permission, I will post here.
Regards
Jeff
