Interesting article in the BMJ this week by Glin Bennet about doctor's losses.
He says that when their life can no longer be defined by achievement doctors
often fail to cope. ie at the plateau in middle life, and men are worse than
women apparantely as women look to their family as well as their work as a
source of enjoyment. So hence the inability to accomplish results in blotting
out ( alcohol ), potency reassuring ( extramaritals ), channelling energies in
new directions ( committee meetings ) and becoming depressed.
True?
