I think it is an urban myth. THe account of the presumed cause of
the death, interference with a life support system which had to be
programmed ... is not credible, even nowadays the programming for th
eusual life-support system in anaesthesia involves moving the brick
to a suitable point along the lever, not some sort of sensitive
digital stuff.
And then of course, if the anaesthetist can stay awake enough to
watch the chest move it helps...

They were circulated, and then ignored by Trusts - in fact our local
one did exactly what they said not to do, and tried to ban phones
entirely.
