Spice things up a little.
Just sorting out a chap in his early 70's who was on his way to Auckland
(City of Sails, perhaps the finest climate in the world) who while changing
planes in LA, collapsed. TIA, carotid gummed up. Had 3 MRI's, 16 days in
hospital, 2 neurologists, neuroradiologist, vascular surgeon, acute care
physician etc. etc. The bill must be staggering. Good care (?) but he was
desperate to get home. Insurance company going hairless, The physicians
insisted that Mr. Branson convey him 1st. class (or what ever it is called)
with nurse to his front door. I estimate the cost to be 7 times this chaps
(comfortable) annual pension.
Now he will wait (? a while) for Terry to perform a doppler and decide what
if anything next. The advice will be the highest available and thou
inexpensive the patient will have to be patient.
If an op was needed (in the US) how many endarterectomies had the surgeon
performed?
The American system is fairly good if you are loaded but 37 million have no
medical insurance. A family can be bankrupted with one illness. In return
American Dr's are rich (unless paediatricians). They own the highest number
of private planes.
Both sides of the Atlantic are trying to move in opposite directions.
Perhaps thou polar we could learn from one another.
John Charlton.
