Interesting. In approximately 50% of cases, so I am told by a dentist
who I believe to be competent although of course I cannot judge that
myself<g>, you will have given an antibiotic to somebody with a
condition that cannot be improved by an antibiotic.
Assuming that say 10% of people get an adverse reaction to an
antibiotic, which is probably accurate if it is Metronidazole, 5% of
your dental cases are going to be harmed, as well as not helped by your
treatment.
It is odd, is it not, and I agree with you entirely about the
likelihood of trouble, that you are so much less threatened by
prescribing than by sending them to somebody who can cure both
conditions almost immediately, and also has the tools and expertise to
distinguish them.
Have you contacted the ombudsman about the presumed maladministration
which caused a complaint about a proper referral to reach a hearing?
