I have tried out a few of the inexpensive commercially available
"recreational" genealogical programmes, viz:
Personal Roots for Windows 95 (Expert Software); Personal Roots Deluxe for
Win 95 (Expert Software); Family Tree Maker (Broderbund), but I have not
used them for medical applications.
These (and presumably the one or two other popular versions) are all fairly
similar and utilise the standard GEDCOM file formats (import and export)
and do give options for ' user-definable fact flags' which could in theory
be utlised for medical indicators. However I can't think how these
programmes could be especially useful for medical histories unless one was
in the business of tracing complex family medical histories of hereditary
conditions such as Duchenne's MD, Fragile-X etc. and I would have thought
the back of the front sheet/problem list would still remain the "gold
standard" for 98% of GP's.
I am sure such mini-versions of the above programmes could be incorporated
into standard Windows-based medical software packages, or perhaps more
appropriate would be a stand alone programme
with cut and paste facilities for flow charts ??
Any other opinions from budding genealogists ?
