Hi Declan

Difficult one really. We get hot under the collar about this yet most of
us are upset at the use of drugs in sport. Note that insulin has gone
prescription only this month because of it's use by body builders.
We need to look at some of the other drugs which are banned. Does anyone
really believe or have EBM (shibboleth) that a dose of pseudoephedrine
might make the slightest difference to an athlete for example?
There's a great fuss among bowls folk at beta blockers being banned yet at
least some will be on it. That's not just a dig at the perceived age of
most bowlers ;-) I can see the problem with a snooker player who has a
tremor being given propranolol. (Is it a drug or the best way to treat
his blood pressure?) Fortunately ventolin and inhaled steroids are ok. I
recall the Winter Olympics before last seeing the flash of a small blue
gadget being hastily applied between spells on the ice. Wasn't there an
advertising campaign for Intal featuring sportsmen or am I just showing my
dementia again?
I think what really got me thinking on this issue was the realisation that
Asterix would have been stripped of his medal in the Olympics had Caesar
been aware of the contents of the magic potion. Is Getafix a member of the
list? Can he justify himself?
