Best of luck, Jon. The Bank of England may not like the idea of carrying
the can for flipping us into a recession, but the reality of the situation
is that they will be expected to do just that, as they have day-to-day
responsibility for interest rates, just as PCGs will have day-to-day
responsibility for rationing. The analogy isn't a bad one - give someone
half the tools to do a job, then pass the blame to that person when the
whole thing goes wrong.
