Nationally, there appears to be a lot of confusion around this topic. The
rules are very detailed about what practices can claim from the NHS and what
can be charged privately. We have always provided travel vaccinations free
of charge to patients. After auditing the service, we have discovered that
our drugs budget has been burdened with approx. £10K as well as missing a
golden chance for income generation to the practice. Our Health Authority
state that we should not be charging patients anything for either the cost
of the drug or the costs of administering it. Would this be in breach of our
terms of service?
Vaccs & Imms is a poor performer for practices because the only revenue
generated in a paltry IOS fee ranging from 0 to £5.90 and minuscule profits
on the drugs. The GMSC are recommending that Immunisations for travel
abroad should not be funded by the NHS. The whole thing is a mess and needs
simplifying? Has anyone got any views?
