Maresah called for use of nurse practitioners in A and E. Well, good idea.
Back in the Coop we've got nurse triage (by telephone ) running and, like
other areas the visit rate is falling. Now after much arm twisting and
hassle we've got a pair of distict nurses working alongside. Potential
massive resource savings in terms of reduced admissions. Roughly one per
day here! Started as you might expect servicing catheter, colostomy and
syringe driver problems but widening out to play a true team role in
moderate CCF, asthma and diabetic problems, elderly immobile - both chronic
and transient (eg. disabling enteritis and short term commodes). care plan
revision in chronic sick and terminal, analgesia adjustment post op,
terminal, chronic non malignant pain,
trouble shooting Bank Holiday relatives- with- attitude.
Why did'nt we do it before!
