I think that most GPs over here would not recommend nil-by-mouth
for diarrhoea. That is the sure way to dehydrate a child. I
generally prescribe rehidrat or diorylate as a
glucose/electrolyte mix to be taken as liberally as the child
can cope with. I usually use it for adult diarrhoea too.
