A local colleague of mine is considering having a pre-registration GP house
officer. Obviously this is a pilot project. He is unsure what the
appropriate payment should be. We both feel this would be a lot of work.
The HO will need a lot of support, there will be much preparation and, no
doubt, masses of paperwork. I understand that remedial trainers responsible
for doctors who have failed summative assessment receive double the normal
training grant. I would have thought a reasonable sum for HO's would be 3
times the normal grant (I wouldn't consider it for anything less).
Does anyone have any experience of HO posts in GP and remuneration. Is
there an appropriate trainers body who could negotiate this, especially
since I think HO GP posts are likely to expand.
