Was that remark "security will be a key issue" an intentional pun? I
am not a techie either, but if there is to be security on information
which is passing across a network, then it requires that there be a
mechanism im pleace to control who can access the information, and
that requires keys, or whatever name they might have been given.
Of necessity a referral letter must contain the patient's identity,
and at least a summary of the medical reasons for the referral;
without the patient identity the consultant has no ready way of
contacting the patinet to set up an appointment; without some
details on the medical condition the consultant has no way of
assessing the condition.
This information cannot be sent in clear. Some, or possibly all, of
it needs to be protected, by means of some form of key which controls
access.
I do not know what mechanisms Lotus Notes offers for this. Can we
please have an account of the mechanisms, how they will be exploited,
and how keys will be managed?
