Hi Leo,
Avoid ModemShare - I tried it for a time and gave up. It will only use modems
with standard IRQ settings on Com1 and Com2 - using one of the new Gateway
machines with USR Winmodem was impossible to achieve here. Managed to get a
connection between 2 PCs with a modem on Com 1 and 2, but then the machines
'locked up'. After a few evenings I decided to 'cut my losses' and gave up on
it. I have now obtained a program called FaxConnect to share Faxmodems, but
have not had time to try it out. as Ewan has said to you - if connecting to
the Web from a Windows machine with your clinical system on it, be aware of
security implications - especially if you are using the EMIS NT solution and
running TCP/IP as your network protocol. If you are also going onto NHSNet,
then your Web connection via an ISP provider is an absolute 'No-No'. Several
programs, including IShare from Artisoft will allow a number of people to be
using the net over one dial-up connection to the Internet. I have no
experience of these however.
Best wishes
Paul Bromley
