Drag,
Why should the request for a repeat have to go to the surgery?
Surely if the prescription is down on your computer as a repeat, then you
have already
authorised it.
So how about, patient contacts pharmacy, which interrogates your computer,
if repeat is authorised
then pharmacy dispenses prescription.
It does though very much limit pharmacy to its tradition supply function.
Given more information, pharmacy could
have a greater role.
An example:
If the prescription was for a first time treatment with a hypnotic, the
pharmacy could supply a copy of the
"good sleep guide".

Subject: GP nets
The White Paper makes fleeting reference to the establishment of Pharmacy
Links. We're trying to work with our local pharmacist(big chain) to see if
we can go along this route.
Possible features from a GP Practice perspective:
- patient phones for repeat prescription. Prescription clerk takes details
and GP authorises repeat.Instead of printing off prescription,GP signing it
and patient calling in to collect, the GP uses his smartcard to 'sign' the
script and it is then sent off to the pharmacy. The pharmacist prepares the
medication which is collected by the patient.
Am I just dreaming?
