Your idea is spot on. I've spoken with several practices (*not*
gp-uk-ers) about what Y2K means to them and, to be honest, Graham
Ride's quote:

is a good summary of their general attitude and approach. They naively
assume that because they have read some reassuring words from their
clinical system supplier, everything is going to be OK with *all* IT
in their surgery. Without going into the niceties of who will pay for
any Y2K consultancy, I think it is fair to say that the responsible
people in the practice should be being more proactive in their
approach to Y2K.
