Well, i think the ulcers related to gonads are different ;)
I know of no good EBM.
A paliative care consultant tried persuading me that metronidazole works
but me no think so.
What I do with mine - I have experimented lots.
to date the best thing i have found is Friars Balsam - apply
carefully with a cotton bud (stains teeth, plastic basins etc) - it is
sheer agony *but* pain releif is established for about 4 hours and a
meal can be enjoyed. I do not think it increases or decreases healing
time.
less effective is the direct application of sod bicarb - agin
painful (but less so) and not such good results.
Alum - this is also agony and I've onl done it once - not
recommended.
I don't know of any evidence supporting steroid lozenges etc -
so I son't use or prescribe them. I have tried applyin betnovate oint
directly - ?possibly quicker times to heal - but I'm not convinced.
The above is treatment I use for myself personally - it is not evidence
based, could be dangerous and should not be attempted (unless you are a
foolhardy doctor with a painful mouth - in which case it is your own
business!)
