The most stupid thing we do is that we set ourselves standatds that are
impossible to achieve. I don't mean standards of 'clinical care' here.
I managed to reduce my work load by doing the following:
1. Learnt to say no
2. Moved to appointments only (14 per 2 hrs sesh)
3. Abolished Saturday surgery
4. Paid Healthcall 500 quid a month to do *all* my on-call
5. Developed zero-tolerance for patients who messed me about
6. Chucked few trouble makers off the list, everybody knew about it
and suddenly everybody started to tow the line
7. Made myself available by phone
8. Stopped the nonsense of routine home visiting at the drop of a hat
9. Most importantly, I began to question what it was all about, my
quality of life and the effect my work load was having on my love
and devotion to my family
You can lower your standards without lowering your standards (if yoy see
what I mean) :-)
