1. Large dose of opioid at surgery
2. several doses of opioid/opiate after surgery - over several days
3. No food before op
4. Little food for several days after op
5. Lack of regular walks for some time (reduction in exercise for
maybe 6-8 weeks post op)
6. If muscle relaxant (curare-like) drugs used with anaesthetic,
then reversed with cholinergic - Neostigmine and Atropine mixture -
which certeinly has a profound effect on the guts at teh time, I
doubt it would persist for so long afterward though.
There might be a few others but I suspect that it is more due to the
change in lifestyle than the anaesthetic per se - however it is hard
to be sure, for some reason the state of the bowels over the ensuing
weeks was not one of the major items set down in the accounts of
undergoing major surgery without anaesthetic which have survived.
I don't know if there is one on the web?
