I despair of anyone who isnt a practising GP (and some senior college members
who allegedly are!) having a clue about what really goes on in GP. I too
despise these pronouncements from armchair health experts. I was enraged
enough by an article quoting Simon Hughes on GP Hit Squads to invite him to
our practice for some brickbats. To my surprise he accepted. Any contributions
on what to sling at him?
I really feel that we'd do our patients more good without the middle men of
the NHS. It's a dead duck.

This is the sort of thing that only a think tank could come up with!
Just thinking about it for a second, it would result in all sorts of
perversions of the system, for example, splitting consultations over
multiple appointments and so forth. It would also bring with it exactly the
sort of bureaucracy that ending fundholding is supposed to avoid. Who would
check the consultation rates?
