I'm afraid your fears are well founded on both counts. You are spot on
politically and you are also one in a million - out on limb - a voice in the
wilderness. Your colleagues are so wrapped up in clinical audit that they
cannot see that nothing will affect patient care more strongly than the
issues you have raised.
Don't despair. There aren't many, but there's a growing number of GPs who
would understand what you're trying to highlight.
Ray of hope? MAYBE, with direct election of GMSC bods, we will get active
individuals who haven't had to jump through the hoops of years on the LMC
and who will be more assertive in their approach to medical politics. Maybe.
Don't under-estimate your political nouse. Just because you understand
medicine does not preclude you from holding an informed political opinion.
Write to the mags directly. Do it by e-mail, today. Your voice is important.
And think about either standing for or nominating someone to stand for
election to GMSC. This year, they are all up for election.
