Today marks a dangerous and unwelcome precedent in our lives as doctors
I can't and won't speak for other medical professionals).
The decree is that all GPs will have to join a PCG. Period.
Those who will not join will be allocated to an existing group; based
on geographical location.
There are 5 such Practises in my area (including mine). I have been
asked by the HA to start looking for a suitable group to court.
This is akin to shotgun marriage. I have no synergy *whatsoever* with
the groups emerging in my area.
All I want is to be left alone to get on with the job. One that I do
very well as documented by ample evidence.
I indicated to the HA that I'd rather be dragged kicking and screaming
into such a forced marriage than try to save their bacon in the eyes of
the DoH when they report that they have had to allocate Practises to
groups. Kind of shatters the politicians and the power suits' illusions
about all GPs in an area desperate to work together and it's all honey
and roses.
To be dragged and forced into such a liaison is nothing short of rape.
I'll just have to do what many people do when they are forced into a
relationship they don't want. Close eyes and grin and bear until ....?
I thought the world, at least this civilised one, has moved on from
such tactics.
There are issues here of extreme importance. Clinical, moral and
ethical. All that we seem to be doing is what we are very good at;
march in a semi-coma into yet another slaughter house.
I say it once more: please leave me alone and let me get on with the
job that I am equipped and trained to do. That is practising medicine.
Is that too much to ask?
