I never give private notes, but usually suggest the firm telephone me if they
have a query, and they never have done.
The problem with this patient was not the request for the sick note, but the
instruction by boss to attend the surgery for purpose of examination to
confirm illness. We do our best to educate patients not to use our services
for trivial, self-limiting minor viral illnesses, and this patient *knew*
there was no point coming to surgery, but felt obliged to do so.
A private sick note is relatively cheap. A private medical examination for the
purpose of certification is not cheap. Our time is valuable professional time.
