Children are well known to have a "fit" following a bang on the head -
reflex anoxic seizure. Recently saw an impressive video from our local
neurologist (who now does less EEG's as they are seldom of help). German
doctors induced postural hypotension and filmed what happened. Every single
example showed a dramatic event ranging from major seizures to disorietated
behaviour. the point was that none were epilepsy, but if had been witnessed
by a doctor or nurse they would have sworn there had been a seizure.
It all goes to show that the human brain is fragile and the diagnosis of
epilepsy is too readily reached. Perhaps the greatest GP tool of all -
time - would be best used here. also a neurology opinion would be useful,
but we have to wait over a year for an appointment now........
