Oh dear.
My Novell server (386 DX with 28 MBytes RAM) is just over 5 years
old, and I am getting a little bit wary about it's hardware.
It crashed twice due to I suspect cosmic rays, and I spent several
minutes working time spread over about an hour repairing the volume
and getting it up.
Optimising the server settings from the supplier's absolute bog
standard has I think made it a little faster, and must have cost at
least 4 hours counting reading the manual.
The complex and fiddly problems I get are to do with the Windows PCs
running on the network.
If the server goes down, then I will not be calling support, I will
be calling mail order for a new one. Dell servers are only £1500
If I had a larger org, and less confidence, I would have bought the
server already, set it up, and have it wired in and ready to run.
