DEMENTIA
A three-day conference on
Monday - Wednesday 27-29 April 1998
at The Royal Society of Medicine, 1 Wimpole Street, London W1M 8AE
Dementia affects 20% of people over the age of 80 years and elderly
demented patients are often 'invisible' to their family doctors.
The management of dementia is progressing in many areas - this
conference will highlight the importance of assessment and accurate
diagnosis as to the cause of the dementia and the value of the
multidisciplinary approach and non-drug treatment in its management.
Within the next decade we hope to see the introduction of effective drug
treatment for Alzheimer's disease. Optimal use of these drugs will
require early and accurate diagnosis. We will highlight the tremendous
resource implications that this will have for medical educationalists
and health services planners.
DAY 1: - AETIOLOGY and DIFFERENTIAL DIAGNOSIS
DAY 2: - DRUG TREATMENT OF DEMENTIA and COORDINATING MANAGEMENT OF
DEMENTIA
DAY 3: - PLANNING THE FUTURE: RESOURCES and WHICH WAY FORWARD?
One day registration available.
Funded Bursaries available for students and junior health workers
(places limited)
