I don't see what all the problem is. My patients call me by my first name if
they want. I suppose with a second name like mine it might be easier for them
;-)
I tend to call them by their first name if I know them a bit. They then object
if I call them by their second name.
Maybe I'm a bit eccentric - I sometimes don't wear a tie (wow!) and never war
a suit (aargh!). I have plants in my room, smile and don't have any
"heartsink" patients.
I reckon it's all "state of mind". What I do not understand is why you all
seem to be getting so upset by a bit of friendly communication.
Maybe it means more than "the patient wants to get something (insidious) out
of you"...
Have donned asbestos suit in preparation for the flames - but will argue my
corner to the end!
