Eight years ago it took me months to diagnose my anaemia.
I was struggling to cope with work, getting tired, all blamed on pressure of
work. Partnership changes, our practice nurse had just died in a RTA, and
there were the 1990 white paper changes. Couldn't possibly admit to acopia
- my partners were coping with all this too.
I'd rashly agreed to do a sponsored mountain walk - 14 peaks in Snowdonia -
27 miles 13000 feet ascent/descent etc. Wondered why I struggled up all the
hills, had heavy aching legs. Damn it, not fit either, middle age on the
horizon.
Couldn't possibly see my GP - one of my partners - never considered changing
GP after joining the practice.
Fortunately asked practice nurse to take FBC - Hb 8g.
Took some iron, saw my GP, kept away from the gynaecologists, acopia cured.
Lessons learnt
GPs get sick too
Register with another practice.
