We have the basic Vamp Medical system with a 486 server running
version 4.* and 10 terminals. We have been told we need to upgrade to
V 5.1 to make the system millennium compliant and give us various
goodies such as an audit trail, Read codes etc. Reuters have said we
need to replace the server with a 200MHz Pentium with 32Mb RAM and 2Gb
HD, plus a whole new "Superport" system to support the terminals. The
cost of all this is £4,000 plus regular extra support cost. Our HA
will probably reimburse 50%, but that still leaves us with a large
hardware bill for what was meant to be a software upgrade.
Are there any other Vamp/Reuters users in the same position out there?
Have you been quoted similar amounts? In particular, do we really need
to replace the "superport" system (at a cost of £1,200 plus VAT)?
Also, how much (if any) training do the docs need to use the new
software?
Please don't tell me you're all on Vision or something infinitely
better from another supplier!
