Indeed, given the success of the patients not paper changes in GP
claiming supported by an audit trail, why not extend these to the
Pharmacies as well.
Each week each Pharmacy sends a claim for payment based on an audit
trail they retain, IE the (currently) paper FP10 or any other paper
form which replaces it.
Periodically a sample of these are inspected.
The PPA would wish to receive figures broken down by GP - not a
large task given that most Pharmacies deal with a few GPs, most GPs
deal with a few Pharmacies...
They would also wish to have preparation and quantity info for each
item, in order to prepare the PACT data which probably is of some
use to some people.
Again, a small task. My impression of Pharmacy computer systems is
that they are rather better at tracking and reporting items by
amount than ours are, not least because they are stock control
systems.
Unless of course the DoH would like to state that Pharmacists are
more likely to defraud the state on FP10s than GPs are on IoS
claims? Surely not.
