the very next morning i had two parents asking for it for their children- not
happy i inhaled steroids etc. Replied that their children were doing v well on
them and no need to change, reassured re steroids etc., best to wait until
more experience gained of a new drug etc. "Well if it wasn't better, why was
it on TV". What can we do? the drug companies are v adept at generating media
interest as substitute advertising. A mejee friend tells me that up to 80% of
items in even the quality press is PR initiated. How about a complaint to the
ABPI and DTB?

Subject: leukotriene inhibitor for asthma
I' ve just watched the BBC news and saw blatant publicity placed by a drug
company for their new leukotriene inhibitor for asthma. I find this type of
manipulation quite upsetting as we have little/no time to make a balanced
judgement on any benefits or risks before the punters come in clutching
their papers etc.
Am I the only one who finds this a problem?
Can we find out who has the first patient asking about it?
I'm sure its an excellent drug which will transform peoples
lives..........without any side-effects.........but where have we heard that
before?
