Dear Mark Trowell,
In Holland the understanding is that the patient and provider have a shared
responsability. Which means that if you get to know an item of information
that should be communicated immediately to the patient you should try to
contact him/her as soon as possible. like a carcinoma finding on a breast
x-ray.
in most other situations we usually tell the patient to call us at a
predetermined time for the result(s) of any test. there should be some
system to make shure that at the end of a given time - days, week - all
result have been communicated, if necessary by mail. But it is the
responsibility of the patient to call as well, and make certain that they
receive their results.
>My understanding was that we were obliged to contact patients. Any
comments gratefully received, but if this stands it would considerably
reduce our reception workload.
>
Fortunately we are allowed to share some of the burden with the patient.
