Gordon R Dickson wrote a series of future history stories in which
the colonised planets were divided into different language/culture
groups along the same lines as Earth. Naturally different parts of
a planet would be settled by different countries....
Larry Niven and Jerry Pournelle wrote the co-Dominium --> Mote In
Gods Eye sequence which has been overtakne by events but postulated
a peace enforced by a co-dominium of USA and USSR, eventually
breaking down, but with planets largely Russian or American
Oh, and eventually, a King, nobility and knighthoods (so presumably
no Australian influence<g>)
harry harrison suggested a future with Esperanto becoming a lingua
franca, not alone but as an alternative to natural languages.
Douglas Adams of course invented the Babel Fish.
I think English has established itself as the language of aviation,
only aviators are going to get off Earth for some time to come, and
so the future of the Galaxy _is_ English, despite the appearance of
unimagination in Hollywood.
