*** Docs offered software in Y2K suit
NEWARK, N.J. (AP) - Some 15,000 medical offices across the nation are
being offered free software to settle a class-action lawsuit against
a Florida company over a Year 2000 computer problem. Medical Manager
Corp. of Tampa, Fla., will give doctors $30.5 million worth of
Y2K-compliant upgrades to a program used for billing, patient charts,
scheduling and writing prescriptions, lawyers said Wednesday. The
settlement is awaiting a judge's approval. The so-called Y2K bug
affects computer programs around the globe and technicians are trying
to eradicate it by next New Year's. See
