My mother-in-law was this week, somewhat embarrassedly and apologetically,
charged a UKP10 'surcharge for Xmas week' on a return rail ticket, normally
#30, from Hereford to Slough. In a long life I've never heard before of an
Xmas
week surcharge, is it just that I'm out of touch?
(She was further outraged that the train was dirty and uncleaned, the WC
stank,
and so on. Also it was 35 minutes late, but that admittedly may have been due
to fog. She proposes to write to Mr Prescott that this is no way to tempt
people to use public transport instead of their own cars.)
