Extremely grateful for the input that I have had so far.
Adrian has asked if I could elaborate on my software/hardware. Practice
system is a non-windows based system. I had to install some software on my
PC for the dial-in function. As far as I understand, this software needs to
talk to a COM2 port. The system I have at home is a PII 350, 56k V90
internal modem. Win98 (pre-installed). My mouse is PS/2 and I have 2 free
serial ports (COM A and Com B ???!!). I have tried 'creating' new COM
ports in control panel but COM2 won't appear (3, 5, 7 etc...).
David mentioned the use of COM1. Control panel says it's already in use.
Properties reveal modem settings. Properties of my modem reveal COM2. There
is an infrared communication device - could this be hogging things?
Ahmad, rather neatly, concurs with the software people that a new modem
(external) would be the solution. I do admit to being frustrated at the
thought of 'downgrading' and replicating my hardware to achieve a simple
task.
Thank you all as I now realise who to harass! :)
