<<Yes, but it is NOT the "old guy" who benefits from the parity deals.
It is the existing partners, who have been working in the practice for some
time, who deserve some recognition for time and effort already expended,
and
extra workload of having new partner.>>
Eh? Sorry but I was referring to the situation over here where many
practices are twosomes or threesomes. Not a big group practice where the
retiring partner has managed to shuck off a lot of work already---but even
in that case surely the "existing partners" should have done something
about that problem rather than expect the incoming partner to reward them
for shirking their responsibilities to the practice? And to the incoming
partner?
And I disagree strongly with the concept that a new partner brings extra
workload. It is certainly NOT true over here---even the locums here bring
extra value in that we learn new things from them and they bring a fresh
look to chronic problems. Give me an average locum rather than a
middle-aged "I've done my bit now it's time for a rest" GP any day of the
week.
<<been the junior myself!). I certainly did not pull my weight on the admin
side
for some time. Not possible to do that. >>
Again strong disagreement. My first big task as a principal was to handle
the cost-rent arrangements for our surgery renovation; my second big task
was to look at computer systems; my third big task was to improve relations
with the staff; my fourth big task was to write protocols for and get
permission for health promotion clinics or whatever it was that particular
scam was called. And the only reason that I did not get stuck into
improving our income was because my partner wanted to handle all that
himself.
All that in my first year in the practice!!! And I was certainly not
unique in that amount of admin and managerial work------I had friends who
were taken on as partners specifically for their management or organisation
skills. I don't why you didn't pull your weight in admin for some
time---I suggest that you were not allowed to because you sound extremely
competent to me.
<<Takes about 5 years of proper general
practice experience before you feel comfortable about the clinical side.<<
I'm sure the second last word was intended to be admin! Again, I
suggest that you were deliberately kept out of the process for some time.
Am I right?

Declan
