On the whole the answer must be 'no they can't'
This is one of the major features of the Y2K problem - and one of the
things that may perversly exacerbate it - ie the issuing of reassurances
that are nebulous but that may seem like cast iron. Everyone says it
will all be ok - but will it? No-one can answer that question - there
are so many factors outside the control of any individual or company.
So we cannot be sure - so we over-prescribe - so we create a shortage -
**even if there is no Y2K problem at all, we will have created one**
...but we have no option - the MPS sent a leaflet yesterday that says we
cannot expect their support if we do not take all reasonable measures to
prevent problems - so are they saying that if we do not prescribe large
stocks and then a patient dies then they will not support us?
This question needs an answer - along with many others
These questions but not all the answers appear in the Y2K guide that I
have been involved with producing (along with Drs Risk and O'Connor -
and Graham Ross and Graham Ride) - as yet we have no sponsorship for
production - sorry folks - but we are still trying.
Cheers all :)
